Back in October, the Third Coast Bride team wrote a post about the whimsical dress designers, Marchesa. Their show stopping Spring 2010 collection caught our attention and became a top contender for my wedding dress. But in the post, we talked about how Marchesa is a red carpet favorite among celebrities and why that was the main reason that I didn't choose something from them. So yesterday, when Anna Kendrick from Up in the Air showed up at the Golden Globes in the my top choice for my wedding dress from their collection, I couldn't help but chuckle.
Thankfully, I went with another designer and honestly, it was a little disturbing that this prediction came true. Marchesa is a magical line of dresses, but they will consistently lose customers who don't want the chance of a Hollywood clothing clone on red carpets. Could you imagine if your wedding guests and friends said, "Hmm, your dress looks so familiar. Where have I seen that?"
At the end of the day, Georgina Chapman & Keren Craig (co-founders of Marchesa) are talented creators of couture ensembles loved by celebrities and red-carpet bound stars. The moral to the story? Brides that are considering Marchesa for their big day beware! You may see Kate Hudson (who also wore Marchesa to the Globes and recent Harper's Bazaar shoot) in your gown before you glide down the aisle.
